Norfolk Children's Services are currently supporting all primary schools to complete the national Self Review Framework, a matrix produced by BECTA, NCSL and NAACE.  This tool allows schools to get a detailed picture of all aspects of ICT.  Successful ICT development allows schools to apply for the ICT Mark, a nationally recognised standard.

There are a number of consultants working on behalf of Children's Services to support head teachers and ICT co-ordinators to complete the self review.  The programme is very well received in school. Here is what some heads and subject leaders said:

  • Able to get a good overview
  • Confirms my thinking
  • Shows us the way ahead
  • Shows us just how well we are doing
  • This is much more on my agenda now
  • I can really see what we have to do
  • I’m going to make this a much more important part of the school improvement plan now
  • It’s made it all seem manageable/more manageable
  • It’s good to have someone to discuss the review statements with – to us, many don’t make sense
  • Having the time (allocated and paid for) means that we have completed the matrix; otherwise we might not get round to it
  • It’s helpful to have someone who is able to say, “You can shelve this aspect until sometime in the future; otherwise it’s overwhelming.”
  • The process of moving from audit to action plan is very good
  • When are you coming back again?
We are now considering a support programme to encourage some of our most e-confident schools to get the ICT Mark that they clearly deserve.

There is a great new resource to help teachers at KS2 to develop their pupil's awareness of e-safety.  It's been put together by CEOP with Becta, the Department for Children, Schools and Families and GridClub.  The interface is just right for KS2, but teachers too can have some fun in the Cybercafe.

A timely release as far as our County is concerned - our e-learning and e-safety conference is next week!
