Schools are invited to apply for grants to assist students who are unable to afford a personal computer (laptop, PDA, etc.). Applications must be with The e-Learning Foundation (eLF) by Wednesday September 24th 2008. To be eligible, schools must become affiliated to the eLF as part of the application. Affiliation requires schools to demonstrate that they share the national e-Learning Foundation's core values i.e. equal opportunity to take part for pupils within any chosen cohort: sustainability through parental involvement: and home access.

The grants are not intended to provide a general subsidy for all parents involved in a project. They are specifically aimed at helping schools provide for those families who would find it hard to contribute e.g. families on benefit/working tax credits and where children qualify for Free School Meals.

Addressing the digital divide by enabling home access for all students will be key to the success of the new Secondary Learning Platform. The LA is also looking a ways in which this can be achieved.
