Chestnuts term so far.
In Chestnut class we have been doing some weird and wonderful projects and trips. Including when in one of Mr Gabes wonderful P.E lessons... Thomas hit the ball and it went beaming like a tornado through the air and then BOOM! It hit Sophie on the head. Beware what you may here next might make you starving. At Wiksteed park we had bacon, chicken and seafood sandwiches. With a packet of waitrose crisps and a tasty and delight ful penguin. Chestnut and Oak have been working so hard on the RATZ production and don't forget Mrs Poulton & Mrs King. They've been trying to put on the best production ever to be watched by an audiunce . This might not be as good as Eastenders or Hollyoaks but I'm trying my best. Ok so lets get back to the story. In maths Mrs Poulton always does these funny algebraic equasions but some how they always include here sister I'm starting to have dreams about her shes mentioned so much. Every week I'm going to be doing different segments so watch out for them . Next weeks thrilling segment is going to be called I wish you were there from Chestnut. Wrote by the one and the only don't forget the best Jordache.

Get on in school. Get online at home: Home Access
The Home Access has been very successful with over 200,000 grants awarded. Based on current application return rates it is unlikely that we will be sending out application packs for the main programme after the third week of June. We would strongly encourage any families who think they are eligible for a Home Access Grant to apply without further delay and anyone with an application form at home should complete it and send it back immediately.

How to cycle safely
Chestnut and Oak took part in net detectives .The theme was safer cycling. Here are five ways to stay safe while cycling: 1.Don't brake with your feet because you can risk getting a broken toe or getting your shoelace caught in your chain. 2.It is illegal to not have a red reflector on the back of your bicycle. 3.It is good to have lights at the front of the bike because then you can visually see what is in front of you. 4.Over 300,000 people go to A&E due to bicycle tragedies. 5.DONT DO STUNTS! Because you can break bones. By Keiran,Ellie,Thomas,Keelan,Charlie and Jordache.
safer cycling - Team 1
Today we are learning about safe cycling. We are getting messages from the police. They are questioing us about safe cycling and we have to answer back. To be safe on your bike you must have 1.you must have lights 2.You must have a helmet 3.reflectors 4.you must have secure tyres. 5. tight clothes so they don't get caught We are making a book with all of our information with a bright logo and loads of information about safe cycling. We will have photo's and comparing 1963 cycling rules to our date now. Then we will present our work with other classes.
Team 5 Safe for cycling
On the 17th of June 2010 ,at St.Mary's School. Group five were doing all about safe cycling. We watched a film from 1948 that was made all about safe cycling. So what we are learning is we have to make a magazine. So we can make a 2010 film for safe cycling. If you do fall down and put your helmet to the test, be sure to get a new helmet .Wearing bright clothes and putting reflectors on your bike also can help you stay safe. You need to check with your mum and dad about where you're allowed to go. Also in the 1948 film.It shows you all these kids in cartoon and most of them are doing stunts. Then in the end they all end up going wrong. In the class room Gabi and Braiden are doing these two puzzles. To help us under stand what kind if items are used for a bike.On are messages from the people who are telling us all about this. They person said 'My mum bought me a new bike but she also bought me a bell with it but i don't want a bell 'So i want to no do i really need a bell ? Then they answerd 'Yes you do need a bell for saftey ' That was the first message we got.On the puzzle that Braiden done which was (Labell the part of the human or bike which the arrows are pointig to) He done a very good job) Gabi is making a bike out of paper then Gabi has to labell the bike an where the part's are. Our group has to make a still picture made out of playmobill. We are going to dress Rianna up in a saftey cycling outfit. THE BEST TRIP EVER!
On Wednesday 21st of April 2010. Elm and Chestnut classes went to the National Space Centre in leicester. The coach journey was an hour and a half but it was worth it. When we got there we could not believe our eyes. There was a building shaped like a rocket. When we got inside we saw part of a satellite on the roof. It was about 17 metres wide. We went into the tranquility area where you had to scan a ticket. The most cool game was a mining game where there was a 2 metre hydraulic arm controlled by dozens of hydraulic valves and levers. You had to put lots of balls into a box in under 250 seconds. Once time had expired the box opened a flap releasing the balls. The box also had scales in it to weigh the amount of balls in KG. By Zac and Joe.
The Easter Egg Contest
We had a competition to design the coolest egg. We started with a lady who came in to assembly and told us about the Barnardos charity. She told us to make an egg, and we had to look after it at school for a week. After a week we had to bring it back to the school to be judged. The person who did the best egg won a big teddy bear. Charlie & Rachael
The enourmous space centre
Chestnut and Elm class visited the huge National Space Centre in Leicster. It took us an hour and a half to get to it. As we entered the magnificent building a Mars Rover made out of Meccano stared us in the face. There was a massive rocket that had been into space and it was hanging on the ceiling. We saw a show in a 360 degree planetarium and it was in 3D. There was also a tranquillity base which was like a training camp for astronauts. There was a computer that made your own ALIEN! They trained us to do the moonwalk.
Crazy cracking Easter Eggs !!!
At St.Mary's school we have been helping the charity Barnardos by making an egg and decorating it. We got a pouch and had to try and get people to donate money to help other children who's family has a problem. So mostly everyone in the school made an egg. Our school made £784 so the charity was so happy. Our school was so proud of everyone who raised money. The winner got the special teddy bear. But we didn't know who was the winner because they pulled the winners name out of the sack. We had a great time !!!
Cambridge united
At St Marys school Some Yr4 & Yr5 children have been able to go to Cambridge united every Monday from 1.15 to 5.00. We get there by a mini bus the person who drives us is called brien. When we get there We always do a warm up game. Here are some of the games we play...Name game, memory-game, scrabble, And lots more. On the computers we made a project on who our heroes are. We also made a sponsoring poster for St. Mary's school. Last time we went our head teacher came for the very first time, it was a lot of fun. The last time we went we played a fun game called turtle race, where we rolled two dice and added them both. We had twelve to choose from. The number seven won twice.
Genr8 Assembly
On an unexpected day there was a surprise for the whole school. Genr8 was back with an Easter show for us. They were telling us about Jesus and his life. They told how Jesus died and came alive on Easter Sunday. We learned a song about Jesus and about care and love. We heard from some puppets about Jesus and friendship. By Gabi and Nathan
Mud everywhere
In April we had a Archaleologist visit us. On the first day he talked about what an Archaleologist does and showed us some bones and artifacts they had found which also included a body of an Anglo Saxon soldier that was found near Haddenham. On the second day we had to bring in old clothes and shoes as we were going to do 3 activities throughout the day. We took part in a practice dig. This was really boxes filled with rubber made to look like rocks and 13 objects put inside and we had to dig and find the objects. We found broken pottery, lego, flint, keys and the end of a smoking pipe. By Joshua and Braiden
The big dig !
On Friday the 23rd of April an archaeologist called Nick Gilmore came to our school and bought digger and dug a trench at the back of our field , and we all had a go at digging. Half of us were digging and the other half were sieving the left over mud. We found a sheep tooth, cow leg bone, floor tile and a Roman nail. It was brilliant fun! By Rianna & Keiran
