Given the opportunity to talk to the Norfolk Association of Deputy and Assistant Head Teachers (NASDAH), I was keen to pull together some of the excellent resources and advice available to school leaders.  It's not easy to suddently taken on the line management of ICT only to find out, that there is a lot more to it.  Suddenly, there is a need for sustainable financial planning.  The SEF needs to included the right questions to monitor the use of ICT across the Curriculum, the school needs to develop a strong vision for ICT and the ICT Co-ordinator is not sure, whether she is subject leader, ICT Co-ordinator and possibly responsible for introducing electronic registration.  WHERE DO YOU START???

The NASDAH Presentation attached PowerPoint, which I used for my presentation hopefully gives you the necessary links and information.  Please note, that links point to specific pages and documents, even where I just mention the organisation.

A good starting point is the Self Review Framework, which can be found on the NCSL Website.

Hethersett High have been developing their scheme of work based on strategy materials, teach-ict.com and an adapted unit by the Secondary National Strategy to include e-portfolios. The whole curriculum is available on the Intranet and pupils get access to resources directly from the web based interface. A non-specialist teacher is working in the department to cover a long term absence of a member of staff. Using the resources, which include guidance for teachers, the new teacher was able to teach a successful lesson under the watchful eye of an Ofsted Inspector. The ICT curriculum provision receives a favourable mention in the recent Ofsted report. Justin Higgins, Head of ICT, says that he is very happy about the impact the scheme of work is having on teaching and learning. Each unit is constantly reviewed and he is keen to point out, that this is 'work in progress'. Justin is now planning to incorporate materials for the year 7 pupils joining the school for the first time in September.

This is a response to Greg's post:  - some great ideas. I have been informed, that youtube is not blocked by county, rather individual schools are making that choice.  That means teachers can influence this at their own school.  Systems should increasingly become more sophisticated and should allow different filters for teachers and pupils.  This would make this resource available for teachers to show on the IWB without having all the school bandwidth used up by less educational videos...

it was great to have an update and summary of current research in relation to how ICT affects the brain and vice versa.  Dr Martin Westwell, from the Institute for the Future of the Mind gave an insight into current research and tried to shed light onto the interface between  the mind, learning and  technology.  Venn Diagramme

I hope I reproduced this correctly and without infringing copyright.  It was fascinating to hear some of the brain based learning myths being criticised for their lack of scientific basis.

Stimulating discussions arose from the keynote and colleagues seem to be particularly puzzled and exited by the prospect of facilitating young people's learning, who had a changed capacity for attention and different needs in relation to learning  stimuli because of extended  play on computer games.

There seem to be a number of ethical dilemmas, which are likely to require decisions by educators.  The prospect of children being subjected (or given the choice for that matter) to chemical or other physically intrusive treatment to enhance educational performance certainly seemed scary to me as a father.
